Rep. Deluzio: “It feels like deja vu. It feels like an administration once again pushing America into a regime change war of choice”

WASHINGTON, DC
Today, Iraq War veteran and U.S. Representative Chris Deluzio (PA-17), Major General Randy Manner (Ret), and former State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller joined Defend America Action in a press call to discuss Donald Trump’s war of choice with Iran that has cost American lives, sent gas prices soaring, and done nothing to improve the lives of the American people. Manner just returned from the UAE where he, along with thousands of Americans, had been stranded as the war with Iran began with no plan to evacuate American citizens from the region.

For working families already struggling to make ends meet, the economic consequences of Trump’s war will be immediate and devastating. Trump started a war that the vast majority of Americans oppose; at the same time, working families face crushing health care costs and skyrocketing electricity bills, and his actions are only making matters worse.

“I am incredibly frustrated and angry to see this president start a war of choice, another regime change war in the Middle East, a war that I don’t think we need to fight, and a war that the American people and the Congress have not authorized,” said U.S. Representative Chris Deluzio (PA-17). “We saw the rush to war in Iraq twenty-plus years ago, built on, ultimately, lies and bad intelligence. And it feels like deja vu. It feels like an administration once again pushing America into a regime change war of choice, asking American service members to risk their lives.”

“Just recently, I found myself stuck in the Middle East, arriving last Saturday in transit for work. What was supposed to be a straightforward journey turned into five days of uncertainty, with a forty-one hour journey across multiple continents before I was finally able to get home late Wednesday night,” said Major General Randy Manner (Ret). “Americans are hearing ever-changing explanations from the President about the reasons for the war. The rationale appears to have evolved over time from one justification to another. When a nation sends its sons and daughters into harm’s way, clarity matters. The American people deserve a consistent explanation of the objectives, the strategy, and the end state.”

“What’s striking to me from the outside is that there appears to have been no planning at all from the government in a number of these cases,” said former State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller. “When you see an administration that can’t even plan for the basics, it really makes you wonder, what, if anything, they have done for the really thorny questions that come out of this conflict.”
