Donald Trump has kicked off a deeply unpopular war with Iran, costing taxpayers billions and threatening to destabilize the global economy. This war is being fought with reckless incompetence and total disregard for Americans at home and abroad. In the lead-up to the attack, as the U.S. military mobilized in the Middle East, Trump courted million-dollar donors at Mar-a-Lago, and he’s been utterly unfocused since the conflict began.
Trump’s incompetence has already had staggering consequences for Americans. Six American soldiers have died, and “operational incompetence” led to the loss of three fighter jets at the hands of one of the U.S.’s closest allies in the region. His ham-fisted strikes have dragged eleven countries into a spiraling conflict, leaving up to one million U.S. nationals living in the Middle East stranded with no comprehensive solutions coming from the administration. Meanwhile, American taxpayers at home are staring down spiking gas prices, higher utility bills, and a $100 billion bill for a conflict that threatens to drag down global economic growth for months to come.
The Trump administration’s bewildering ineffectiveness in the Middle East is nothing short of an abdication of responsibility to Americans everywhere – and is the exact opposite of what Americans voted for, which was to bring down prices and make every day life more affordable for Americans. Good luck with that happening anytime soon.
Trump Parties While the Middle East Burns
- Trump Partied With Millionaires at a Mar-a-Lago Fundraiser Instead of Being in the Situation Room After Authorizing Strikes on Iran. Trump gave the authorization to strike Iran at around 4pm on Friday, Feb. 27. Instead of being in the Situation Room, however, Trump spent his evening at Mar-a-Lago greeting wealthy donors at a “glitzy fundraiser” costing attendees $1 million apiece. Videos of Trump dancing to “God Bless the USA” circulated as bombs fell on Iran just hours after the fundraiser.
- Trump Spent His First Event After Launching Strikes on Iran Rambling About White House Drapes. In his first public appearance after striking Iran, Trump spent much of his time rambling about White House decor instead of wartime strategy: “See that nice drape? […] I picked those drapes in my first term. I always like gold.”
- FBI Director Kash Patel Spent The Week Before Trump’s Iran Strikes Partying. The U.S. began building up troops in the Middle East in anticipation of a conflict with Iran weeks ago. Instead of making preparations for war, however, Patel spent the week before Trump authorized strikes on Iran in Milan partying with the U.S. men’s hockey team after their Olympic gold medal win.
- Kash Patel Kneecapped America’s Middle East Espionage Ahead of the Strikes. Last week, Patel gutted a global espionage unit with veteran agents trained on threats and spy operations with a special focus on the Middle East.
Administration Incompetence Is Getting Our Soldiers Killed And Stranding Hundreds Of Thousands of Americans With No Plan to Get Them Home
- 6 American Soldiers Died In A Facility That Lacked Adequate Protection From Aerial Attack, Drawing Criticism From Military Officials. At least six American soldiers died during an attack on a facility in Kuwait that may have been inadequately fortified, lacking overhead protection from missiles and drones. But instead of taking accountability, Trump dismissed the military deaths as “the way it is,” and said, “There will likely be more before it ends.”
- Air Force Veteran: “Operational Incompetence” Led To the Loss of Three Fighter Jets. Kuwait mistakenly shot down three American F-15E fighter jets in a friendly fire incident an Air Force veteran has attributed to “operational incompetence,” given that the U.S. Air Force is permanently stationed in Kuwait and the two countries regularly train together.
- Up to One Million Americans Are Stranded in the Middle East With No Comprehensive Evacuation Plan. Trump launched strikes against Iran without any consideration for U.S. nationals in the region. The Trump administration did not prepare to evacuate before launching the strikes. Instead, the State Department has been forced to issue post-hoc warnings to U.S. nationals in the area, evacuate non-emergency staff, and even shut down its embassies in the wake of drone attacks on diplomatic missions from Iran. The State Department is scrambling to secure military airplanes and charter flights for evacuation. Now, up to 1 million U.S. nationals are stranded in the Middle East, and President Trump has no plan to get them home.
- Trump’s Strikes Have Dragged At Least 11 Countries Into War. 72 hours after Trump launched strikes against Iran, at least 11 countries have become directly involved in the conflict.
- Trump Launched Strikes on Iran Knowing the U.S. Could Run Out of Interceptors In Weeks. Before Trump even launched strikes on Iran, top Pentagon officials warned that the U.S. only had enough interceptors to counter Iranian drone strikes and missile attacks for two weeks. Now, Trump has brought the U.S. into a protracted conflict with Iran without a long-term plan to protect U.S. military assets and allies from aerial attack.
Forever War Of Choice – 100 Shifting Rationales, Goals, and Tactics
Instead of presenting a clear rationale for striking Iran, the Trump administration has offered shifting explanations:
- Conflicting Rationales. One of Trump’s stated goals is ensuring Iran will not get a nuclear weapon, but U.S. and Israeli airstrikes have left Iran’s main nuclear installations largely untouched so far. Trump later said he carried out the strikes to advance U.S. national interests and in “collective self-defense of our regional allies.” He’s also said the war comes down to Iran’s “evil ideology.” Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said the strikes were designed to support Israel’s plans to attack Iran.
- Conflicting Goals. Trump said he had “three very good choices” to lead Iran after the conflict, but later said the strikes had killed his preferred candidates. Trump suggested he wants a similar outcome as in Venezuela earlier this year, claiming “somebody from within” would be the best option to lead the country, but has refused to commit to supporting internal efforts to overthrow Iran’s regressive government.
- Conflicting Tactics. Trump has gone back and forth on sending in U.S. ground troops. Further, Trump said the U.S. operations could continue for four to five weeks or longer, but Pentagon officials said interceptor supplies would run out after just two weeks.
Trump’s War Of Choice Is Sending Prices for Americans Soaring And Costing Us Billions
- War With Iran Is Estimated To Cost American Taxpayers Up To $100 Billion. Economists and military experts estimate that the total price tag of the conflict will be at least $40 billion and could approach $100 billion, with the economic loss as large as $210 billion depending on the total disruption to trade and energy markets.
- Oil Prices Are Spiking, Driving Up Prices at the Pump. Trump’s war with Iran is rapidly spiking oil and gas prices. Crude oil is up almost 10% since the start of the conflict, which will cost American consumers billions at the gas pump and could cause utility bills to spike. Trump even admitted Americans may experience “high oil prices for a little while.”
- Protracted War With Iran Could Damage the Global Economy. On Mar. 3, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) warned that Trump’s escalating war with Iran could hurt the global economic outlook if energy prices continue to surge. Likewise, the German Chancellor has said the war is “of course, damaging our economies.”
