SHOT: Todd Blanche, Donald Trump’s former criminal lawyer, spent his tenure as Deputy Attorney General pressuring prosecutors to bring criminal charges against Trump’s political opponents, regardless of what the evidence said.
New York Times: “Through deputies, Mr. Blanche pressured the Virginia prosecutors to be ‘tough’ and see the Comey case through […] The spree of firings and indictments showed just how much control Mr. Trump had over basic Justice Department functions long considered off-limits to the White House.”
CHASER: …and Trump’s reward for Blanche executing that playbook and shielding him from scrutiny in the Epstein scandal? A nomination to lead the entire Justice Department permanently – and to continue to be Trump’s toady.
CNN: “President Donald Trump has formally tapped acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to take on the top law enforcement job on a more permanent basis, sending his nomination to the Senate on Monday […] Critics […] say that Blanche has effectuated the president’s personal and political agenda to use the Justice Department as his own attack mechanism.”
