ROUNDUP: Trump Dismisses Americans’ Top Concerns As Approval Craters and Affordability Crisis Deepens

By June 12, 2026No Comments

Each week, Trump finds a new way to show Americans just how out-of-touch he is, dismissing concerns about inflation and the cost of living, high and rising gas and oil prices, and even the broader affordability crisis. Meanwhile, his approval rating has plummeted to historic lows of less than one-third of voters. Ever since Trump launched his war of choice against Iran earlier this year, he has bent over backwards to try and spin the conflict and ensuing economic turmoil as minor or even beneficial to the country — but Americans aren’t fooled. With gas prices spiking 60% in just a few months, inflation hitting its highest rate in four years, and affordability concerns topping pollafterpoll, the cost of living is top-of-mind. Read Trump’s latest attempts to dismiss Americans’ top concerns:

  • Trump: “I Don’t Think About Americans’ Financial Situation.” During a May 12 exchange with a reporter, when asked to what extent Americans’ financial situation was motivating him to make a deal on Iran, Trump replied, “Not even a little bit. I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation.”
  • Trump on 4.2% Inflation: “I Love the Inflation.” When asked by a reporter if he was concerned about the latest inflation numbers, Trump replied, “No, I love it. I love the inflation.”
  • Trump on High Gas Prices: “This Is Peanuts.” When asked by a reporter about skyrocketing gas prices, Trump replied, “This is peanuts. I appreciate everybody putting up with it for a little while. But I don’t even think about [it].”
  • Trump: Even If Oil Got More Expensive, “It Would Have Been Worth It.” During a White House address, Trump told reporters, “I thought oil prices would go to $200, $250. You’re surprised and I’m surprised. But even if it went to $200, it would have been worth it.
  • Trump on Car Prices: “I Couldn’t Care Less If They Raise Prices.” When asked about automakers potentially hiking car prices because of his tariffs, Trump replied, “I couldn’t care less if they raise prices, because people are going to start buying American cars.”
  • Trump on His Iran War: “Everyone Tells Me It’s Unpopular, But I Think [War With Iran] Is Very Popular.” When asked about his war of choice in Iran, Trump declared, “Everyone tells me it’s unpopular, but I think it’s very popular…I don’t really have enough time to explain to people.”
  • Trump: “I Won Affordability.” During a rally in Rome, Georgia in February, Trump declared, “Do you notice, what word have you not heard over the last two weeks? Affordability. Because, I’ve won. I’ve won affordability.”
