Today, ahead of Valentine’s Day, Defend America Action released a new report calling out the Trump administration for skyrocketing prices on Valentine’s Day staples like candy, flowers, and a night at the movies. The report, first published by American Journal News, details how Donald Trump’s tariffs have raised the price of a bouquet, especially roses, sent chocolate prices surging, and driven up the cost of a night out, with dinner and a movie for two in many states costing up to $150 on average.
Trump’s tariffs have kept inflation high and single-handedly raised Americans’ costs across the board, making celebrating with a loved one this Valentine’s Day more expensive than ever. One in four surveyed say they may even take on debt to help pay for their plans. The report notes that the national average for a dozen roses this Valentine’s Day is more than $90, with some states facing prices as high as $110. Additionally, chocolate prices have surged 19% over the past year, and the average cost of a steak dinner and a movie for two ranges from $125 to nearly $150.
This is all part of Trump and Congressional Republicans’ affordability crisis that’s touching every aspect of Americans’ lives. Instead of helping working families address rising costs, Trump and Republicans are spending billions bailing out foreign allies, building lavish monuments, and handing out tax breaks to billionaires.
