Rep. Dingell: “Michiganders have paid the highest amount of any state in the country for increased tariffs, almost $6,000 per family.”

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Defend America Action hosted a press call with Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI-06), along with Michigan State Representatives Matt Koleszar, Noah Arbit, and Jason Morgan, and Try And Stop Us Senior Advisor Derek Martin, to discuss Donald Trump’s affordability crisis, its consequences for Michiganders, and Trump’s effort to rig an election he and Republicans look certain to lose.

“Donald Trump has created a cost of living crisis here in Michigan, and for families across this country. His war of choice in Iran has sent gasoline prices skyrocketing,” said U.S. Representative Debbie Dingell. “He’s gutted vital programs like Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP, which is something that a lot of hardworking families rely on. And for the record, Michiganders have paid the highest amount of any state in the country for increased tariffs, almost $6,000 per family.”

“I’ve knocked on a lot of doors, and I’m hearing the same thing over and over again. Things are too expensive,” said State Representative Matt Koleszar. “I talked to a woman just over the weekend who pulled up her DTE app and showed me that she used less energy this year, but was paying more than she did last year. And what do we see out of the White House? We see somebody whose net worth continues to go up while families continue to struggle more and more and more.”

“Donald Trump said he was for you, for us. But Donald Trump is only for himself, enriching himself at the expense of taxpayers, standing with our adversaries while selling out our allies, incinerating our pocketbooks by kicking millions off health care and food assistance, and implementing bankrupting tariffs that have raised the cost of gas, groceries, and cars, all while stomping on the throats of farmers, manufacturers, and small businesses here in Michigan,” said State Representative Noah Arbit.

“We’re hearing the the same consistent message across the state of Michigan. People can’t afford Donald Trump’s America,” said State Representative Jason Morgan. “People cannot afford the higher cost of gas, groceries, health care, housing. Everything has gotten more expensive under this presidency. People want to work hard. They want to do their part. All they’re asking is for us to do our part to make sure they can get by. Donald Trump promised to bring down costs. He has not. They have all gone up.”

“Trump’s affordability crisis is squeezing Michigan families, and Republicans know that voters have noticed. So instead of fixing it, they’ve been trying to rig the game,” said Try And Stop Us Senior Advisor Derek Martin. “They can’t win a fair fight, so they’re trying to hold on to power by changing who gets to vote. But what happens next is up to us, not them. When people show up to vote in numbers too big to ignore, the will of the people wins.”

A recording of the press call is available here.
