Rep. Davids: “People are working hard, playing by the rules, and still feeling like they’re falling behind.”

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Defend America Action hosted a press call with U.S. Representative Sharice Davids, Kansas House Minority Leader Brandon Woodard, and former Special Assistant to President Biden for Health Care Jessica Schubel to discuss Donald Trump’s affordability crisis and its consequences for Kansans.

The economy ranks as Kansas voters’ top issue, and 53 percent disapprove of the job President Trump is doing. The average Kansas family has spent an estimated $4,400 more on everyday essentials under Trump, diesel hit an all-time Kansas record of $6.25 a gallon in September, and 41,240 Kansans have lost food assistance since Trump and Republicans passed their cuts last July.

“Just this week, I heard from an Episcopal priest who lives here in Kansas, and he told me that every single day, someone from his congregation comes into his office asking for help for basic necessities: their utility bill, their rent, their groceries, their gas,” said U.S. Representative Sharice Davids. “People are working hard, playing by the rules, and still feeling like they’re falling behind. What Kansans want and need are practical, bipartisan solutions that are going to bring real relief, not partisan games that are going to make life harder.”

“We’re hearing the same thing over and over again. Folks are struggling to afford gas, groceries, housing, and their utility bills,” said Kansas House Minority Leader Brandon Woodard. “We are working for real solutions that actually help the people of Kansas make ends meet. And I’m looking forward to working across the aisle with anyone that’s going to help make it more affordable to live, work, and raise a family in Kansas.”

“After President Trump and Republicans ripped away ACA tax credits, premiums skyrocketed for over 180,000 Kansans, and premiums for those who counted on those credits increased by nearly $600,” said former Special Assistant to President Biden for Health Care Jessica Schubel. “President Trump and Republicans are not serious about making your life easier. They’re not serious about making health insurance affordable, but they are serious about helping rich people get richer.”
