Rep. Ross: “There is one person who bears responsibility for making this crisis worse: Donald Trump.”
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Defend America Action is releasing a new report highlighting how, as a result of Donald Trump’s tariff-driven inflation, North Carolinians are being squeezed on every front. The report, first published by Cardinal & Pine, shows that three in four voters are stressed about rising costs, with majorities saying groceries, energy, and health care are unaffordable.
Defend America Action also hosted a press call this afternoon with Congresswoman Deborah Ross (D-NC-02), Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (D-NC-04), as well as North Carolina State Senators Michael Garrett and Lisa Grafstein, to discuss Trump and Congressional Republicans’ affordability crisis and its consequences for North Carolinians.
“There is absolutely no question that we have reached the precipice of a real affordability crisis in this country. From energy and housing to groceries and gas, costs are up across the board, and North Carolinians are struggling to make ends meet,” said U.S. Representative Deborah Ross. “There is one person who bears responsibility for making this crisis worse: Donald Trump. Since day one of this corrupt administration, his policies have driven up costs and made life harder for North Carolinians and people all across this country.”
“We’re facing an affordability crisis here in North Carolina and across the country. I am hearing from my constituents every day about how hard it has become to keep up with the basics,” said U.S. Representative Valerie Foushee. “Donald Trump promised to lower costs on day one, but last July, he and Republicans in Congress made the largest health care cuts in history by slashing more than $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, all to give massive tax breaks to the ultra wealthy and big corporations.”
“You don’t protect the future by taxing your own families and calling it a tariff. You don’t protect the future by ripping health care away from 900,000 of your neighbors. You don’t protect the future by killing the factories that would have employed your own constituents. North Carolina has always done better, and we will again,” said State Senator Michael Garrett.
“The Trump affordability crisis is plaguing all Americans, and Republican policies in North Carolina have left our state’s families vulnerable,” said State Senator Lisa Grafstein. “This affordability crisis is not a natural disaster and is not an act of God. It is the result of catastrophically bad choices. We have to stop the bleeding at the federal level and the state level and adopt responsible fiscal policies that support working families.”
