WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Defend America Action is releasing a new report highlighting the devastating affordability crisis Donald Trump and Republicans have created for Florida.
Defend America Action also hosted a press call this morning with Florida State Representatives Dr. Anna Eskamani and Rita Harris, along with Adam Hoyer of Protect Our Care Florida, to discuss that affordability crisis and its consequences for Floridians.
“Whether it’s gas, whether it’s food, housing, transportation, you name it. Everything is expensive right now,” said Florida State Representative Dr. Anna Eskamani. “We’re navigating this with an administration at the federal level and the state level that has really neglected and ignored these realities for our constituents. And from never-ending wars to corporate tax breaks to ending Medicaid coverage for millions of people, the reality is that they have passed policies that have made a bad situation worse.”
“What we’re seeing is just a total collapse of of the economy coming from all different directions, and it is because of the fact that there is literally no governance happening in our state, and there is no governance happening at the federal level,” said Florida State Representative Rita Harris. “People are making money off of wars of choice, and we’re seeing billions of dollars being extracted from our economy and be redistributed up to the people who do not need it.”
“At a time when everything is way too expensive, Donald Trump and congressional Republicans cut more than a trillion dollars from our health care, all to pay for tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations,” said Protect Our Care Florida’s Adam Hoyer. “When Republicans killed the ACA tax credits last year, Florida felt it harder than just about anybody. Premiums for Floridians who relied on those tax credits went up an average of 132% just in one year.”
