Report: Wisconsin Officials Call Out Donald Trump and Republicans For Affordability Crisis in the Badger State

By February 9, 2026No Comments

Today, half a dozen Wisconsin state officials, in partnership with Defend America Action, are releasing a report calling out Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans for the state’s affordability crisis, as drastic health care and food assistance cuts hit families at the same time costs skyrocket and jobs disappear. The report, which is signed by Wisconsin Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski and five state senators, was first published by the Wisconsin Examiner.

The report finds that the vast majority of Wisconsin residents are concerned about inflation and the cost of living, and that over a quarter of a million residents stand to lose their health care as a result of the Trump-GOP budget. Additionally, thanks to Trump’s cancellation of clean energy investments in the state, thousands of jobs have been lost and electricity bills have shot up. Home prices are rising twice as fast as wages, and farmers are facing financial ruin due to Trump’s trade wars and extreme mass deportation agenda. The officials detail all of this, and put the blame squarely on Trump and the GOP:

“Donald Trump’s destructive policies are ripping away Wisconsinites’ economic security. Between his massive cuts to government spending, the Trump-GOP Big, Ugly Bill, and his disastrous tariff regime, Trump’s agenda is hurting the local economy in all areas, stoking a dire affordability crisis as food prices, energy bills, health care costs, and housing costs spike.”

In 2024, Trump made a series of fantastical promises to Wisconsinites: that we would pay down our national debt, that grocery prices would “come tumbling down,” and even that the federal government would cover the cost of in vitro fertilization. All of it was a lie, and come November, Trump and his MAGA Republicans in Congress will have to answer to voters for their long list of failures.
