Today, Defend America Action released a new report, first published by Courier Texas, showing that Donald Trump’s agenda has left Texans paying more for less, at the same time he burns taxpayer money on ICE, golden ballrooms, and his war with Iran. As of July 2026, the average Texas household has spent over $2,500 more on goods and services because of inflation under Trump, and wages aren’t keeping up.
Groceries are climbing fastest in exactly the categories families buy every week. In Dallas-Fort Worth, fresh fruits and vegetables have jumped 9.5 percent over the past year, while food prices in Houston have climbed more than three times faster than overall area inflation.
Trump and Republicans in Congress gutted health care to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy. A combined 367,270 Texans have lost the coverage they relied on through Medicaid, CHIP, or the ACA since Trump and Republicans passed their health care cuts last July, and Texas hospitals stand to lose $609 million a year because of the Medicaid cuts alone.
Trump’s war in Iran has sent gas prices climbing too, with Texas drivers now paying 50 percent more at the pump than they were at the start of the year. Meanwhile, Trump and Republicans in Congress killed the clean energy tax credits that built the Texas solar industry, and nearly a third of all solar projects canceled nationwide in the first quarter of 2026 were in Texas.
Texans are drowning in higher bills while Trump chases grievances and vanity projects that do nothing to bring costs down.
The results of this report were discussed on a press call hosted by DAA, which included Texas State Representatives Mary E. González and Josey Garcia, along with former Senior Advisor to President Biden Emmy Ruiz. That press release and a link to that call can be found here.
