BEANS GO BUST: Trump Raises Coffee Costs for Working Americans

By November 24, 2025No Comments

There’s no question that Donald Trump is making life more expensive for working Americans. Between cutting food assistance, slashing over $1 trillion in health care, and ripping away ACA tax credits, Republicans are making everything less affordable, and Trump’s tariffs are no exception. From dolls to bananas, prices have been skyrocketing for a vast range of products thanks to Trump’s tariff regime.

One of those key products is coffee, where prices have increased by over 20 percent in the past year. Just like the rest of Trump’s agenda, his tariffs are screwing working class Americans while he and his wealthy friends reap the benefits. Read more about skyrocketing coffee prices:

TRUMP TARIFFS HIKE CHEAP COFFEE PRICES WHILE SPARING PREMIUM BREWS

  • Coffee prices have increased by over 20 percent since last August, reaching a national average of $3.52 for regular hot coffee and $5.47 for regular cold brew.
  • Cheap coffee prices have increased twice as fast as more premium varieties.
    • The prices of coffee brands with a larger proportion of lower- and middle-income consumers, like Folgers, Hills Bros, Maxwell House, are significantly more sensitive to tariffs and other costs.
    • This follows a larger trend of premium brands outperforming middle- and lower-income consumer-focused brands amid rising costs.
    • Luxury goods are more likely to be “inflation-proof” in the face of price increases.
  • 66 percent of American adults drink coffee every day, averaging three cups per day.
  • Domestic commercial-scale coffee production in the U.S. is limited to Hawaii, which produces just 23 million poundsless than 1 percent of U.S. consumption (3.2 billion pounds of coffee annually).
