Today, more than a dozen Arizona state legislators, in partnership with Defend America Action and Progress Arizona, are releasing a report calling out Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans for the state’s affordability crisis, as drastic health care and food assistance cuts hit families at the same time costs skyrocket and jobs disappear. The report, which is signed by fourteen state senators and representatives, was first published by the Copper Courier.
The report finds that 56 percent of Arizona Latino voters rate the cost of living and inflation as their top issue, and it’s no wonder why. Thanks to Trump’s failed policies, Arizona food costs are up, thousands of households are severely behind on their utility bills, thousands of Arizona clean energy jobs have been lost, and farmers in the state are taking major financial hits. Additionally, more than 350,000 Arizonans stand to lose their health care as a result of Trump and Republicans’ drastic cuts. In the report, the legislators lay out their constituents’ struggles, issue by issue, and call Trump out for protecting his rich and powerful friends at the expense of everyone else:
“360,000 Arizonans stand to lose their health care as a result of the Trump-GOP budget, food prices are up, and hundreds of thousands of Arizona households are now severely behind on their utility bills as rates go through the roof. Trump has jeopardized $3.6 billion in Arizona energy investments, costing the state nearly 9,000 jobs, and has ripped away hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding for health care and food aid.”
In 2024, Trump told Arizonans that “my administration will live by the motto ‘promises made, promises kept.’” On every issue, from health care to affordability to foreign policy, that was a lie. This November, Trump and his enablers in Congress, in Arizona and across the country, will face accountability at the ballot box.
