Mayor Bottoms: “Affordability is not a hoax, despite what the President of the United States seems to believe.”
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, ahead of Donald Trump’s appearance in Georgia, former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, State Representative Jasmine Clark, Protect Our Care Georgia’s Liz Ernst, and Cost Coalition Senior Communications Adviser Terry Holt participated in a press call to discuss Trump and Congressional Republicans’ affordability crisis and its consequences for Georgians.
The speakers highlighted how, as a result of Trump and Republicans’ failed policies and broken promises, costs are skyrocketing for everybody in the state, from families to farmers to small business owners, while big corporations and the ultra-wealthy rake in more tax breaks. Trump’s anemic economy is hitting the poorest Georgians the hardest, and his tariff-driven inflation is sending food prices, energy prices, and health care costs soaring.
“Affordability is not a hoax, despite what the President of the United States seems to believe,” said former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. “People across Georgia and across this country are hurting. I’ve heard it firsthand, from big cities to small cities, from rural communities to urban communities, people are concerned about their utility prices. They’re concerned about the cost of housing. They are concerned about how they will be able to put groceries on their table and live in dignity.”
“Donald Trump is coming down to Georgia to try to convince the voters to ignore how his economy has failed them,” said State Representative Jasmine Clark. “Here in Georgia, Donald Trump’s failed economy is negatively impacting Georgia families, Georgia small business owners, and Georgia’s farmers. After running on a campaign of lowering costs on day one, Donald Trump has not only failed to keep his promises, but he’s made the situation worse.”
“Donald Trump is in Georgia, trying to sell a fairy tale about the economy. But Georgians are living here in the real world,” said Protect Our Care Georgia’s Liz Ernst. “They’re the ones opening their health insurance bills that have doubled. They’re the ones having to drop coverage because they can’t afford the increase. They’re the small business owners who are watching costs climb with absolutely no end in sight.”
“Whether you’re a Republican like me, or a Democrat like the mayor, or something else, you’re feeling the negative effects of the Trump policies every day,” said Cost Coalition Senior Communications Adviser Terry Holt. “Whether it’s in health care, whether it’s at the grocery store, whether it’s in your small business, red states are being affected just like blue states under the Trump regime.”
