WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Donald Trump decided he prefers to shut the government down rather than meeting with Democrats and ending the health care crisis he and Republicans created by slashing more than $1 trillion from Medicaid and ripping health care tax credits away from the American people to pay for tax breaks for billionaires.
In response, Defend America Action Senior Spokesperson Rodericka Applewhaite released the following statement:
“Barring a miracle, the government is going to shut down in eight days and it will be the fault of Donald Trump and Republicans, full stop. Trump now joins John Thune and Mike Johnson in refusing to negotiate with Democrats and has decided instead to force a government shutdown unless he can strip away health care tax credits from the American people and slash Medicaid to the bone, all to pay for tax breaks for billionaires. Trump and Republicans have created a health care crisis that is ripping coverage away from millions of Americans and raising costs for millions more and they’ve decided to shut the government down rather than do something about it.”
