FACT SHEET: Republicans’ Unpopular, Extreme Agenda Is a Polling Catastrophe – So Now They’re Trying to Gerrymander the Map

By August 5, 2025No Comments

This week marks the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and Republicans are marking the occasion by attempting to gerrymander Texas as part of a brazen power grab after already pushing the MAGA-dominated Supreme Court to dismantle the VRA’s protections against racial gerrymandering – all to cover for their wildly unpopular agenda. Polling shows that the vast majority of Americans disapprove of Trump’s signature policies, including tariffs and his Big, Ugly Bill, and his job approval rating is down 7 percent since April. Republicans know they will lose if they run on a level playing field, and are only forcing through this mid-decade redistricting because their toxic agenda is such a disaster.

Just look at the numbers on how much the American people despise Trump’s agenda:

  • 🛒 The vast majority of U.S. adults are at least somewhat stressed about the cost of groceries (AP-NORC Poll)
  • 📈71 percent say tariffs will increase prices on goods, and twice as many Americans would prefer for tariffs on foreign goods to be decreased as want them to be increased (Economist/YouGov Poll)
  • 📉58 percent of Americans disapprove of Trump’s job performance, down 7 percent since April (University of Massachusetts Amherst Poll)
  • 💸51 percent oppose the GOP’s Big, Ugly Bill (Economist/YouGov Poll)
  • 🌀53 percent say the average American will be hurt by the GOP budget (Economist/YouGov Poll)
  • 🏦Just 37 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of the economy (Gallup Poll)
