Democratic Leaders Hold the Line, Demand Republicans End Trump’s Health Care Crisis

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, new reporting highlighted that Democratic Leaders Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries are standing united, refusing to support any short-term spending bill until Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans end America’s escalating health care crisis of their own making. At Trump’s direction, Congressional Republicans slashed more than $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act through their Big, Ugly Bill. The legislation will also trigger billions of dollars in Medicare cuts, while adding bureaucratic red tape and raising prescription drug costs for millions of Medicare beneficiaries. To top it off, the “disgusting abomination” will force hundreds of hospitals to close across the country, including rural hospitals that serve as lifelines for their communities. Trump and his MAGA Republicans are ripping health care from more than 15 million Americans while raising health care costs for millions more – all to fund massive tax breaks for giant corporations and the ultra-wealthy.

In response, Defend America Action Senior Spokesperson Rodericka Applewhaite released the following statement:

“Leaders Schumer and Jeffries are standing with working families across America and taking action after Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans took a wrecking ball to Americans’ health care. The contrast is clear: While Republicans twiddle their thumbs, callously ignoring the enormous crisis they’ve created for millions of Americans, Congressional Democrats are united, working to protect patients, families, and seniors from the Trump-Republican war on healthcare. If Republicans were serious about avoiding a shutdown, they’d come to the table and agree to put working families first. But Republicans are more focused on Trump and their billionaire donors than what’s best for the American people.”
