WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Donald Trump’s MAGA Republicans on the House Oversight Committee are holding a stunt immigration “hearing” with Democratic Govs. Tim Walz of Minnesota, Kathy Hochul of New York and JB Pritzker of Illinois. Instead of doing their job and trying to solve our immigration crisis, Congressional Republicans are wasting the day playing politics with three governors while Trump’s approval ratings on immigration continue to crater.
In response, Defend America Action Senior Spokesperson Rodericka Applewhaite released the following statement:
“This sham hearing isn’t even over yet, and it’s already crystal clear that this is a colossal waste of taxpayer money and everybody’s time. Donald Trump’s MAGA Republicans have dragged Democratic governors away from their day jobs for a naked political stunt to distract the American people, including their own base, from the one-two punch of Trump’s idiotic tariffs and Republicans’ Big, Ugly Bill that will gut their Medicaid and food assistance to pay for tax breaks for the rich.
“There’s something deeply ironic about the Oversight Committee, which is designed to hold the president and his administration accountable, targeting Democratic governors who have made clear time and time again today that we need bipartisan immigration reform, a secure border, and to deport convicted criminals. Yet as Trump creates chaos by terrorizing families at churches, schools, and hospitals, and ignores due process for American citizens, Republicans are now helping him to distract from their attacks on working families.”
