As MAGA Republicans prepare the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in U.S. history, Donald Trump is only focused on doing his part for his crooked, ultra-wealthy donors: passing out get-out-of-jail-free cards. Whether it’s defrauding the IRS, cheating on your taxes, or even federal bribery, friends (and donors) of Trump can get sweetheart deals and special favors. Meanwhile, hardworking Americans are missing out on a billion dollars in fines and restitutions Trump’s fraudster friends owed taxpayers as Trump pushes to slash funding for health care and food assistance all to give the ultra-wealthy a huge tax break.
Donald Trump is passing out get-out-of-jail-free cards to his crooked, ultra-wealthy donors and supporters:
- Paul Walczak, a nursing home executive tax fraudster, submitted a pardon application that cited his family’s financial support for Trump and had his mother go to a $1 million-per-person Trump fundraiser – less than three weeks later, Trump signed a full and unconditional pardon for Walczak.
- Trevor Milton, the founder of Nikola, was sentenced to four years in prison for fraud. Milton and his wife donated almost $2 million to a Trump reelection fund last year, and then got a Trump pardon.
- Devon Archer was convicted in a scheme to defraud investors and a Native American tribal entity of tens of millions of dollars. After Archer spoke out ahead of the 2024 election about his business dealings with Hunter Biden, Trump awarded him a full and unconditional pardon.
- Jason Galanis was sentenced to 189 months in prison and ordered to pay nearly $162 million after pleading guilty to his role in two securities fraud schemes. Trump commuted his sentence after Galanis assisted Republican investigations into Joe Biden’s family.
- Scott Jenkins, a Republican Virginia sheriff who had been convicted of federal bribery charges and sentenced to 10 years in federal prison, was granted a full and unconditional pardon by Trump.
Meanwhile, working families are stuck with huge cuts to Medicaid, huge cuts to food assistance, higher prices at the store, and thousands more in costs.
- The CBO has confirmed that, no matter which draconian option they go with, Trump and MAGA Republicans’ Medicaid cuts will result in reduced or cancelled coverage for millions of Americans.
- If Republicans limit state taxes on healthcare providers, over 10% of Medicaid recipients – 8.6 million people – would see reduced coverage as a result, and almost half of them would become uninsured entirely.
- MAGA Republicans’ proposal would cut more than $290 billion from food assistance programs that help over 42 million people purchase fresh produce and other groceries. This would take food out of the mouths of children, seniors, and veterans.
- Basic needs, clothing, toys, cars, and shoes are all set to get more expensive soon, thanks to Trump’s tariffs.
- Under Trump and Republicans’ budget plan passed in the House, working-class households will pay thousands more so that billionaires receive a $279,000 tax giveaway.
