WASHINGTON, D.C. — Yesterday, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office confirmed what Congressional Democrats have been saying all along: Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans’ budget plan to slash funding for health care and food assistance to cut the ultra-wealthy a huge tax break would be the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in a single law in U.S. history.
The bill, which increases costs for the bottom 10% of Americans and funnels that money to the wealthiest 10%, has become more unpopular the more the American people learn about it.
In response, Defend America Action Senior Spokesperson Rodericka Applewhaite released the following statement:
“The CBO, the American public, and Congressional Democrats all agree: in Donald Trump’s America, the rich get richer and the rest of us get left out in the cold. His draconian budget would kick nearly 14 million Americans off of Medicaid, take food out of the mouths of children, seniors, and veterans, and ensure that working-class households pay thousands more so that billionaires receive a $279,000 tax giveaway. No wonder the vast, vast majority of Americans hate this bill, and no wonder Trump’s approval rating is in the toilet.
“This bill is bad policy and bad politics, and vulnerable Republicans know that passing it would be career suicide.”
